What It Means to Photograph Wine

Wine is more than a product on the table;
it often serves as a quiet conductor of mood.
This photography series, created in collaboration with Bottle Bunker,
centers on wine—not just as a subject,
but as a key part of a larger visual narrative.

The six images include sparkling wine, Chablis, and red wine,
paired with food, table elements, and gestures.
Lighting, props, and camera angles were all chosen
to support not only the product but the feeling each scene could convey.
Whether it was a casual picnic or a festive celebration,
each shot aimed to capture a composed but natural rhythm.

The Process of Finding Balance

At the heart of the project was always the question:
“What kind of scene does wine belong in?”
Too decorative, and the wine disappears.
Too minimal, and the work loses its energy.
We spent time finding the balance—between staging and spontaneity,
between function and feeling.

Scenes That Reveal Themselves Over Time

At the time of this shoot, I didn’t really enjoy wine.
I preferred stronger spirits,
which gave me a certain distance from the subject.

Some time later, I visited a winery in Australia
and sat quietly with a bottle of Shiraz.
That changed how I understood wine.
When I look back at this series now,
I see decisions and forms I hadn’t noticed before.
It’s not something easily explained in words—
but if I ever photograph Shiraz again,
that scene will carry a new layer with it.

Photography, and the Way I Work

Commercial photography isn’t driven by personal taste alone.
It requires understanding the brand,
its goals, and the context in which the images will be used.
I try to find balance at the center of those needs.
